Here's another recent Autumn built timber deck from around the Welshpool / Shrewsbury area. A really good sized caravan deck on a new unit supplied by Salop Leisure. The deck provides plenty of space for outdoor living and gives the owners dog sufficient space to wander around without getting in the way of the farm located along side the holiday site.

Our custom machined treated and eased edge timber provides a great finish for railings.

Bridges and sun terraces

Been a while since our last update, so heres a bunch of photos of recent decks we've built in Borth, Aberdyfi, tywyn and a few other local locations.

Here's a tough one to explain, although I'll be going back with my drone to get an eye in the sky photo of this one soon.

This property had no useable rear garden, but did have a once bathroom toilet area raised up above the property.

We had a local glazing company replace a bedroom window with a door, then built a bridge to cross the back path, (maintaining the right of way for other properties), before then turning what was one the toilet space into a great little sun terrace space of approx 10x 6 foot. We boxed around what was the 'pots' and created a bench or sun lounger.

On the left, looking back at the house; on the right looking out from the bedroom at the sun terrace

Decking rails built to comply with Building regs at 1100mm in height. The decking is mainly surrounded by the original stone wall. A real sun trap!

Before and after photos of the sun terrace

The combination of a bridge and utilising an otherwise unusable space has created a great space for enjoying sunny weather, and will have added considerably to the value of the property. A tricky little job to design and build but well worth it for the result.

Willerby Aspen Lodge decking

Here's one of our recent Autumn 2016 Commissions. A grand timber deck to match this equally grand Willerby Aspen Lodge.

Willerby Aspen Lodge decking

The lodge owners planned their upgrade with us from scratch, which started with taking down the old decking before removing their previous caravan; nothing went to waste, how's this for a pile of fire wood!

Decking frame work

With a stream running along one side and a lawn on the other side, we wanted a deck that would allow the clients to enjoy both sides of the lodge. We also wanted a large area at the front of the deck, for which we built a 3.6x9.6 meter area.

Next up, the front shed will be getting an upgrade...

The deck was finished off with 6"x1" boxing with inch gaps. Allowing air flow under the deck and the caravan is a must!

Autumn Decking projects

It may be Autumn and the days are certainly drawing in, but were still really busy building decks on houses, caravans and lodges.

Here's one we built a couple of months ago in Penmaen Bach caravan park near Pennal and Aberdovey. The owners didn't want conventional railings, and decided to go with a nautical theme, so we used Synthetic, hemp look rope to build the rails. The deck shape ensures the owners get the sun from sun rise until sunset. Perfect for a holiday home!

We've got a real variety of jobs coming up over the next few weeks, from a large decking on a Willerby lodge, to a bridge leading out from a second floor to a cliff top garden; and of course as with this latest example from last week, (September 2016), we've still got a long list of Caravan Decks to build and are taking bookings for as far as March 2017.

Lots more photos to upload from other summer jobs, or check out our Facebook page 'Garden carpentry' for more regular updates. Over the next couple of months we've got a lot more house and garden decks and balconies to build so will have further examples of our work and ideas for home improvements on here soon.

Thanks for taking a gander, Shem...

Summer decks

2 months since my last update, were super busy and not had much of a chance to sit down at the computer!

We've done some real great jobs and had some great customers in a range of areas. Here's a few...

Here's a low level timber decking down the coast in Aberarth near Aberaeron. The garden sloped in all directions and although a good size had very little usable space. The 7x4 meter decking certainly changed that...

Before...

... and after

This next timber deck in Wrexham covered a regularly wet garden and provided a focal point and useable space in the garden, we added a planter to help separate the deck from the garden without the need to use rails.

Before...

and a couple of afters. A big thanks to our client here for providing us with a shelter to work under!

With it being summer time we've also been flat out building timber decks on Caravans. I wont post all the caravan photos as they tend to be similar in design but here's one that was a little different to make the most of a small area; the customers wanted the deck as low as possible to maintain privacy.

Finally here's a recent deck laid in a herring bone design built in Aberdyfi / Aberdovey.

Thanks for taking a look. I'll be adding some further updates soon, and if you want more regular updates or ideas for your own garden or caravan decks please follow us on facebook here >

Silly season on the decks

A bit slack with updates at the moment, as silly season for deck building is here and well!
Having had a great 3 week stint of remarkable sunny weather here in Wales and many other parts of the UK, everyone is thinking about outdoor living and the smell of burnt sausages is filling the air as BBQ's become daily events. ALWAYS GOOD!

After some really great House jobs, its been mainly Static Caravan decks over the last few weeks with exception to one massive house deck.

So here's a few photo updates...

caravan decking Aberdovey

4.8x2.4 meters, (16x8 foot), and ideal size area for a sitting area, and even better when you have patio or French doors on your caravan.

large timber deck Dolgellau

Prior to the deck being installed, this large area was on multiple levels with no way to easily walk form one side of the property to the next. Stage 2 of this development will be a roofed area for outdoor shelter and shade.

caravan decking mid wales

6x2.4 meters, a great sized static caravan decking, ideal for letting kids and dogs roam free, or just extending your living room when the patio doors are open.

Caravan timber deck wales

Another example of turning sloping, multi level ground into a great large area to enjoy the fresh air, 6 meters in length by 3-4 meters in width, a really big area to add space to any holiday home/ Caravan or Chalet.

The summer is really booking up quickly now, so if your in a rush to get a deck designed and installed, please do call or message us sooner rather than latter. Of course, outdoor living isn't just about summer, so if your not in a rush why not contact us and let us design a space to suit your needs.
We hope to have some photos of composite decks very soon. Thanks for looking,

Aerial drone photos of decks

ive finally got round to buying the drone Ive been meaning to buy for some years now. Ive wanted one to let me really capture the essence of the timber decks I build, without having to take multiple images. This is especially true of decks that cover more than one aspect of a property.

I opted for a DJI Phantom3 Professional, and Im really pleased with its simple to use and stable flight modes. SO enough about the drone heres some decks with been busy building this year and a couple of older ones that I thought would suit a aerial photos, hope you like

Just finished last week, this cracking Cabin is based near Tarporley in Cheshire, as well as the deck with boxed off the deck and the cabin to help cut out wind chill and add to the styling.

Hardwood and Herring bone

Here's a recent deck we've just finished on Penros Caravan park in Aberdyfi / Aberdovey.

Our client wanted this functional three level decking to compliment his new caravan and its styling.

We used Balau hardwood decking laid in a herring bone design on the largest area and opposing diagonally laid boards on the next two levels. Not wanting to spoil the view out onto the dunes we used marine grade stainless steel wire railings to finish the job.

Hope you like this great alternative to softwood or plastic/composite decking.

Ikea sun umbrella integrated into the deck, and easily removable to store

Wire railing were complimented with stainless steel LED decking lights

Partially finished at this stage, but couldn't resist a photo form the top of the van to show the herringbone design off...
